Transfer deadline day deals worth talking about

August 31st, 2010 by Football Corner No comments »

The transfer window shut at 6pm this evening and there were a number of deals that went through on a fairly dramatic deadline day.

Asamoah Gyan joined Sunderland for a fee believed to be around £13 million. If the Ghana striker plays like he did at this summer’s World Cup in South Africa, he should prove a decent signing for Steve Bruce.

Eidur Gudjohnsen, Jermaine Pennant, Marc Wilson and Salif Diao all moved to Stoke City. A mixed bunch really with Gudjohnsen no doubt the pick of the four signings for Tony Pulis.

Robinho left Manchester City to sign for…

Will Arsenal regret not signing a new keeper?

August 31st, 2010 by Football Corner No comments »

So the transfer window has shut and unsurprisingly, Arsenal did not sign a new goalkeeper.

Manuel Almunia has come in for a lot of criticism in recent weeks with many Arsenal fans calling for Arsene Wenger to sign a new goalkeeper.

Mark Schwarzer and Shay Given were both strongly linked with a move to the Emirates. However, nothing ever materialised on either front and as a result, Almunia will remain Arsenal’s number one choice keeper.

If Arsenal were to challenge for the Premier League title this season, I personally felt they needed to sign a new keeper. No matter what…

Spurs Swoop For Van Der Vaart

August 31st, 2010 by Football Corner No comments »

Sky Sports News seem pretty adamant this evening that Rafael Van Der Vaart, who won a World Cup Runners-Up medal this year with the Netherlands, is about to sign for Tottenham Hotspur. His Wikipedia page, at the time of writing this post, says that the 27-year old playmaker, currently plays for Tottenham!

Whoever said Harry Redknapp wasn’t a wheeler-and-dealer, eh?

You can buy both Tottenham tickets and Aston Villa tickets right now.

ADEBAYOR LEAVING TO MAKE ROOM AT CITY FOR ANOTHER BIG STAR

August 31st, 2010 by Football Corner No comments »

“If Adebayor goes to Spurs, City will be short-handed,” says Times Football writer Gabriele Marcotti on Twitter. “Which means they’re either screwed or they’ve secretly lined somebody up.”

I doubt that City, the world’s wealthiest club, would let themselves go into the season with a depleted strike force. But if there’s any substance to the rumours of Adebayor’s departure to rivals Spurs, City must surely have somebody lined up. What do you think? Are the rumours of any substance at all? If so, who on earth could City be in the market for?

And what of Adebayor?…

Could this Liverpool midfielder really be on his way to Tottenham?

August 31st, 2010 by Football Corner No comments »

Tottenham have been linked with a whole host of names in recent days and weeks. But here’s a new one for you.

Ryan Babel.

Yes, there are reports this morning that Harry Redknapp is looking to sign the Liverpool midfielder before the transfer window shuts later today.

Tottenham are keen to bring Babel to White Hart Lane on a season-long loan deal. However, Liverpool are only willing to let Babel leave on a permanent basis.

The 23-year old has struggled to make much of an impact since joining Liverpool back in 2007 and should Babel stay, he is likely to…

Arsenal likely to miss out on Mark Schwarzer

August 31st, 2010 by Football Corner No comments »

I hope you are all enjoying the drama of transfer deadline day. Plenty of rumours going around, but not many deals going through as of yet.

Anyway, Fulham keeper Mark Schwarzer has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal. However, it appears unlikely that the Australian will make the move to the Emirates. That’s according to BBC’s David Ornstein.

Arsene Wenger is understood to be keen to add a keeper to his squad before the window slams shut at 6pm this evening but after weeks and weeks of speculation surrounding Schwarzer, it looks as though he will remain…

Tottenham ready to make surprise move for Emmanuel Adebayor?

August 31st, 2010 by Football Corner No comments »

Well what about this then? Before you read any further, I’ll just let you know, I personally can’t see this one happening.

The Daily Mirror has today reported that Tottenham are ready to make a surprise transfer deadline day move for Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor.

The former Arsenal man is understood to be growing frustrated with the situation he finds himself in at Eastlands, ie, sitting on the bench, and the paper claims that Harry Redknapp is looking to bring Adebayor to White Hart Lane on a season-long loan deal.

Adebayor, 26, currently earns £170,000 a week at Man…

Transfer Deadline Day Latest

August 31st, 2010 by Football Corner No comments »

Good morning all.

As you can tell, I am up very early on a day which I have always loved, transfer deadline day. Slightly disappointed that the window is closing at 6pm and not midnight as it used to be, but nevertheless, I think we are in for a busy few hours as clubs look to complete those last-minute deals.

I am sitting here with a cup of tea to my right and I am ready to bring you all the latest developments as they unfold throughout the course of the day. Who needs Sky Sports News, eh?

Plenty of…

Tottenham to make deadline day move for former Manchester United striker?

August 30th, 2010 by Football Corner No comments »

Tottenham are ready to make a deadline day bid for Villarreal striker Giuseppe Rossi, according to today’s Daily Mirror.

The former Manchester United man has been strongly linked with a move back to the Premier League throughout the summer but as of yet, nothing has materialised. However, that may be about to change.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is still keen to add another striker to the ranks at White Hart Lane with Robbie Keane likely to depart before the window shuts at 6pm on Tuesday. Luis Fabiano and Klaas Jan Huntelaar have both been linked but with Fabiano now staying…

Harry Redknapp tells Sky Sports reporter to F**k Off

August 30th, 2010 by Football Corner No comments »

Harry Redknapp loses his cool after a Sky Sports reporter labels him a “wheeler and dealer.”

I don’t know why Redknapp is getting so upset over. He is a wheeler and dealer and for him to get so offended by it is pretty pathetic in my view.

What do you make of it? Comments below please.

You can buy yourself Tottenham tickets right now and also get your hands on Champions League tickets.
